I just wanted to let you know I injured my eye transplanting a shrub and I could not see very well. A branch scratched my cornea over the pupil area. My vision is still blurry and the eye lid is still quite swollen. It’s getting better than it was, but I could still feel my eyes straining when I am on the computer….so hopefully I’ll be back as soon as I can…hopefully very soon.

Hi Lori,
I hope that you will be OK. I am not a doctor, but I think that you should probably take a few days off from your PC.
What did your doctor say?
I hope that everything will be alright.

Oh my goodness Lori! Gardening is not suppose to be a contact sport. : Did the doctor mention maybe covering your eye to give it some rest? Hope you feel better soon. Lori

Thanks Tal and Lori… I go back to the doctor later on today. He wanted to check on it again because it was live plant material that can cause some kind of fungi problem. That’s another reason why he didn’t want me to cover it up. He gave me antibiotic drops to use so it won’t become infected. Until the cornea heels, it constantly feels like something is in my eye even though there isn’t…it’s very irritating. He didn’t think it was a good idea to be on the computer…but I’m stubborn and had to at least try to answer emails. I’ve been wearing sunglasses while I am at the computer, which helps a little. I love to work in the garden…next time I will be wearing eye protection. Lori

Working in the garden is the same as cooking in the kitchen with oil. You have to cover your eyes with goggles just to make sure that nothing jumps into your eyes.
I was cooking french fries for dinner a few days ago and once I had a small drop of water, by mistake, the oil just started to "freak out". Good thing the oil didn't jump higher but it would be a good idea next time to use goggles.
Lori, next time you go to your garden, use goggles and gloves. Also, knee pads would be a good idea too since not using one can hurt your knees pretty bad.

Hi Lori,
That is one reason why I have never resented wearing glasses all my life. They do provide a measure of protection even from a flying speck of dust or sand.
I will be praying for your full recovery. Rest your eye as much as possible.

Lori,
I'm so sorry to hear about your injury! What a strange thing to happen - gardening of all things. I hope you heal quickly and will be back with us soon.

Lori I am so sorry to hear what happened to you. I do hope all went well at the doctor this afternoon and the fungi stays away and you start feeling better. Please rest and take care of yourself. We take our health for granit and especially when something happens to the eyes it is very scarey. I do hope you are feeling better soon.

Lori, I am sorry to hear about your eye injury I hope that you heal quickly and that the feeling of irritation from the injured cornea subsides soon. I know how annoying that sensation of something in your eye is. Take it easy for a few days and we'll look forward to your return when your eye has healed up. Take care. Troy

Hi Lori,
Hopefully everything healed up quickly. I did the same thing a while back and the ER put some stuff in my eye and put a patch over it for 24 hours and then it was good as new. Not fun stuff.

HI, Lori
Eye injuries are scary things. I vividly remember how freaked out my parents were when I poked my eye with a fork when I was 3. NOW I understand not only why they were freaked out but why they had been telling me not to wave the thing around while I was talking!
Here's wishing you a speedy and total recovery.

Hey Lori,
Did you come back from the doctor already? What did he/she say?

Thanks for the get well wishes everyone…my eye is A-Okay! It was a pretty scary experience and I definitely learned my lesson. My husband said to wait for him and he would do it, but I didn’t. I think I’ll stick with planting the flowers and let my husband and son take care of transplanting large shrubs. Thanks again and have a great weekend! Lori
