Jim's has moved on and not been here since 2008 and his website is no longer online so the info and graphics are no longer helpful neither is the former website domain hosting service we previously used.... Unfortunately NVU and Kompozer help and support is no longer available or needed. Here are some links to website design and tutorials for beginners. These are all pretty good and some use step by step methods. www.w3schools.com/www.easywebtutorials.com/html-tutorial/how-to-build-websites.com/www.garysimon.net/webdesign_tutorial/2psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/interface-tutorials/photoshop-web-design-sleek/Many of you will either be getting a personal or business website with an available Domain name for making money online in 2012. You can do it yourself with the above or else you can get a hosting and domain account with an easy to use software program included to get online quickly. This is recommended to novices and then you can learn the specific details of how to do it yourself without a program. Last years online sales went thru the roof compared to previous yrs. It's truly getting to the point that 100's of millions of people worldwide are buying products and services from the convenience of their home. No gas money spent or sales taxes at point of purchase in most cases. Many companies either give free delivery or standard cheap costs. If you're selling, marketing, or promoting any product/service then you must now have an internet presence to be successful. You can get both hosting and a domain name of your choice at VERYVIP Selecting a website hosting/domain service for your online income is no different than a offline company renting space in a top quality building with a rental agent ready and willing to take care of any problems. The alternative being renting an old dilapidated and neglected building with the leasing agent unaccessable most of the time. Unfortunately that's the case with many companies offering hosting, domains, and webpage builders. We have reviewed and compared many of the reliable and good hosting companies and found VERYVIP to be the best overall choice... based on everything you get. There are several factors you need to consider when you start the process. These are: 1. Uptime 2. Disk space 3. Bandwidth or data-transfer 4. Service and support 5. An easy & "User friendly" program to get website up and online. 6. Simple system to up date home page and build practically unlimited additional pages. 7. Easy to add functions to add like collecting information and interacting with customer through live chat, email, text, or phone' 8. Marketing strategies and techniques to expose your website to reach your target visitors. 9. Tool to locate domain names available to fit your needs. 10. Locating program which finds the latest expired domain names and others up for sale cheaply. These are just the basics all companies should offer, but often... don't! If you are having a difficult decision on what to do and don't want to use HTML code and/or other high learning curve systems then VERYVIP could very well be the answer. Get a website online with the domain name of your choice and easily make content changes including images, banners...etc to your website then VERYVIP is your best choice. Here is a sample site created quickly... Person had no prior experience and went from no online presence to a becoming a webmaster in a just a few hours. This is a first time user and can easily update and revise it to look more professional: www.veryvip.com/salon/VeryVIP Sitebuilder Stands Alone and is cutting edge for those new to making money online. Unlike the run-of-the-mill sitebuilders you get elsewhere, the VeryVIP Sitebuilder is not just a template you type over.... Rather, it is a sophisticated - yet easy to use - tool that extends and enhances your own creative and expressive abilities. You do not just choose a template. Instead, you choose a framework within which to give life to your own vision of the appearance and function of your web presence. They also have LIVE ONLINE SUPPORT 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week... live chat or call... Go Here: We hope this helps everyone who wants a website or prefers to transfer their current website domain to a better program...

Jim, I agree with Chris completely. This will be an excellent tool for our beginners. Now I have something that I too can forward my affiliates to to help them.
If you want any of the graphics that I created for my site let me know and I will forward them to you for full use to TOPS affiliates. I offered this to Tom "cloudhand", but they didn't have anything yet set up for distributing graphics. This site you created will be the perfect place to put graphics others here have created, found, and use on their sites.
I would suggest you make an announcement post suggesting that any who want to offer graphics, or wisdom for that matter, should forward them to you somewhere. Let me know what you think. great job, Adam

Jim Wow - you are such an asset to this forum. I thought the "template" you provided when I was getting started was a lifesaver - but you have really outdone yourself on this one! I would have loved to have it when I started.
My only suggestion (if it isn't done alrerady) would be maybe Erich could include your link in his Tops instructions for new people to begin there.
I think your pricing is outstanding!
Thanks for all you do here.

I agree. The TOPS Website Design Tutorials are outstanding and extremely helpful. I am so new at this, without such help, I would still be sitting here wondering what to do next. At least now I have been able to get started and can understand a whole lot more than I ever even imagined possible. Thank you Jim. And yes, your pricing is outstanding. What a help!!

Hi Marlon, You had asked about the DAS (Development Acknowledgement Statement) in another thread, and Lori and I have both posted answers there. It can be found here: www.erichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=p1&action=display&thread=1172605701&page=1#1172721348Please avoid posting the same question in multiple threads (cross-posting) to avoid redundant answers, plus it can be confusing for those answering your questions and following the discussion if the same topic is in multiple locations. Thanks. Troy

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd make an appearance after not really posting much recently. I have been around, reading posts, however mostly questions have already been answered (Troy, do you ever sleep?)
Thank you everyone who has given me feedback via PM or email on the site, it seems to have gone down very well. There does seem to be less of the same questions popping up in the forum too, which is a good indication that it's giving some answers that would normally be asked here.
One of the main reasons I'm not here as much is because my wife is currently 36 weeks pregnant and has a condition called SPD, which means she has a very painful Pelvis when moving around. It's not permanent but could be long term after the birth if she doesn't look after herself, or have me running around doing as much as I can to make her life more comfortable!
Another reason is that I'm doing a lot of work on members websites, as per the services I'm offering. I'm currently running about 6 to 8 weeks behind on new work coming in, so if you were thinking of asking me to do some work for you it could be 2 to 3 months before I can realistically deliver. It might be a lot sooner, dependant on the time I get and also on how much time I'll have (or sleep I get) after the new born has arrived!!
Anyway, seeing as I offer this service and am normally a lot more active in the forum, I thought I'd give you all an update.
Regards,
Jim

Thanks Jim, I've been wondering why we haven't heard from you for a few weeks, although I had assumed you were busy with your design work, day job, and family. I'm sorry to hear about your wife's condition, I hope she recovers from it as quickly as possible. Your training site is a great asset to the TOPS/3PP program, I've referred many people to it when responding to posts. Nice work! I'm sure everyone here appreciates all the time and effort you've put into it. No, I don't sleep nearly as much as or regularly as I should and am often up all hours of the night even when I'm not working...I need to get into a better schedule I've actually been off work for the past week (pretty much the only real week I get off all year) hoping to get some work at home caught up, but between being out of town for a few days visiting relatives, odd jobs that needed done here, and many other distractions, I wasn't nearly as productive as I had hoped Now I'm back to work tomorrow again, working until mid to late evening as usual each day, which isn't going to help my schedule any. We might soon hire additional staff there though, so maybe I can eventually get better hours (*fingers crossed*). Good luck with everything, hopefully the new baby that is soon arriving will let you get at least some sleep Take care. Troy

Hello Jim, Congratulations on the addition to your family. I am sorry to hear your wife is having problems, but she is so lucky to have you to help her. Keep us informed!
Also, Congratulations on your business growing! We all told you in the beginning after seeing your website and talent that you had a niche! You have proven it now and I hope it continues to go well for you.
I thought I was lucky finding PP3 when I did and you offering the template. I would probably still be working on building a website if it wouldn't have been for your template! Now with TOPS and your step by step instructions look how quickly people are making it through the phases. My how things have grown and changed.
Good Luck Zeta

Thank you for all the messages, just over two weeks to go which for me isn't long but for my wife, in pain, it's an eternity! Still, we've had a really nice Easter and I've taken advantage of the extra time off work, so we're keeping her spirits high and the excitement of having a second along with your thoughts are all helping, so thank you again Jim

Jim, I haven't been on the forum since my first post when I joined back in Nov. 06, so you don't know me. But I just wanted to tell you what a difference the Web Design Tutorials have made in my life. I had gone over the FAQs and read a lot of posts, but hadn't really caught on I guess. Your tutorials are really helping me to get on top of this! Originally, to be honest, I didn't commit enough time to the job. I am now spending 4+ hours a day working on this and nothing else. Your tutorials are easy for me to follow, and I feel like I am learning a lot. I had tried several other courses and even bought a book!
I know this has taken a lot of your time away from your work and your family. Just wanted to say that I appreciate it a lot.
Congratulations on your new addition to the family. Hope all goes well, and your wife recovers rapidly.

Oleta, thank you for your post, it means a lot to know that my tutorials are really making a difference. I'm glad I was able to design them before things got to hectic at home, it means the help I would normally provide in the forum is published and readily available, so I don't have to worry so much about the lack of time I currently have to spend here. I still feel guilty though as when I do get the chance to check in I notice Troy, Ken, Shawna, Shelly, Sandi and many other managers, moderators and experienced members working hard to help everyone. Still, I'll be back, maybe it'll take a few months, but I'll never be away from here completely and I'll be on full form again as soon as I'm able Thanks for the well wishes for my wife, Regards, Jim

Can someone make a forum post: "TOPS for Dummies" with better instructions. Ya know, the older a person gets, the harder it is to learn something new. I'm not quite twice as old as you are, but getting close.
Right now I am trying to learn how to get WordPress up and running and hosted with one of my web sites. I sit and stare at it like a dumb deer in the headlights, and then I try to read the instructions again.
I do not go into a forum and pitch a hissyfit because I am struggling. Eventually I will figure it out and I will be better off because I figured it out.
Yes there will be a lot of sighs of exasperation and I may just hit the bottle of generic Excedrin again, but in the end I will not have used any profanity during the learning process and I will not have chewed anyone out. It is not their fault I am from the "slide rule generation" and a lot of this is confusing to me, too. That's just the way it is.
You bought a hosting plan because otherwise your web site cannot have an address on the internet.
Most of us did not know how to do any of this when we started. But we learned.
You want your instructions in baby steps. Perhaps if you explain what you did in baby steps someone will come along, spot whatever you did wrong and tell you how to do it right.
"I tried it and it didn't work" is not helpful. What exactly did you do - step by step - and what happened when you did it?
People are willing to help you here if you are polite and courteous and ask specific questions. If all you want to do is throw a temper tantrum and rant, you probably will get ignored.

Hi all,
remember me? I used to come here regularly, then made an appearance a couple of times saying I'll be back regularly, then not posting for a while again!
I'll not go into the whys or wherefores but simply say that the small amounts of time I do get to work on TOPS does actually go into reading some posts here, carrying out some moderator tasks (very few though cos you're a lovely bunch ;-) ) and helping members that contact me directly. The reason I tell you this and in this particular thread is that because I do continue to work on TOPS and with members I am seeing a pattern emerge on the use of my Web Design Help website, in that some are still finding it difficult to learn web design and work on their sites, either doing the designing themselves or trying to pick up the maintenance of their site after they've had line-by-line help here or some parts of their site designed for them.
This calls me to action in thinking of how I can make it even easier to understand and how I can tailor the website to help a wider span of knowledge, experience, technical ability, etc...
The idea of the website in the first place was to reduce the number of website queries here so that more effort can go into the really important success factor of this business, the Marketing.
So, how about this for an idea. I've tried to make the site as generic as possible, teaching web design principles and methods so that you can take the knowledge and use it as you need to. This seems a bit too generic and lacking structure for some to follow or understand, so my idea is to create a Step by Step guide, taking the standard TOPS basic site, setting it up on your computer, showing you how to amend, add, change the various bits and actually walk you through each bit so you can literally follow it word for word and end up with a Phase 2 and then Phase 3 site.
I would add this as an extra guide on the site and leave what's currently there (need to check if that needs updating?). So you can first build the site to Phase 2 & 3 step by step, then use the rest of the guide that's currently there to understand the fundamentals in it's structure and how it all works.
My time is still very restricted at the moment, I've gone and been promoted at work which doesn't help!! ;-) So I won't promise this development to happen in the next couple of weeks, however if I start building it now, bit by bit, hopefully it'll be done in a couple of months.
So before I do, can I get some feedback and general consensus to this idea, does it sound like a solution or does it sound like a waste of time???
As always, I appreciate your honest and direct comments.
Regards,
Jim

Hey Jim Welcome back! My opinion is nothing you share and do with this forum, your knowledge and help would never be considered a waste of time!!!! Back in the day when I started, the forum was just getting started and great, but we didn't have TOPS and all the additional help that new members do now and you just continue to come up with ways to help I don't think new members know how lucky they really are. You are a blessing. Wishing you and your family the best of holidays! Congratulations on your promotion! Zeta help everyone was done now.

Jim, This is such a wonderful idea because many who come here to complete the phases don't have a clue what html is, or any idea how it works. They spend weeks trying to figure out the basics and it can be frustrating. You are so kind to share yourself this way with everyone in the forum, new members and old, sometimes thanks just isn't enough. Cindi

Welcome back, Jim
Great Idea! As Cindi said so many come here not understanding html (myself included) that it is a struggle to get going.
A step by step guide would be so helpful to so many people.
Thank you Nancy
