I am very puzzled with what is happening. Sandy said she is also experiencing this on her site.
This morning I added the new Mall to my site at about 5am. And yesterday I added the other program. (In the most recent past I have been trying to clean my site up. I had some code that would not allow someone to copy from my pages. I took this out as it seemed to be causing some problems. Maybe I did not get all of that code.)
Ken and Troy thank you for looking for the problem.
I will combine the styles when I get home this eve.- I am glad that Firefox still shows my site.
Ruby
Hi Ruby,
I recently tried your web page link in your signature and it still gives me an error in Internet Explorer, so I'm now finding the time to revisit this thread and take another look at your page...
I did notice something strange...I viewed the source quickly just before it flashed to the error page so that I could get your code, and I tried pasting it into a .txt file on my own computer that I was going to edit using Notepad and then rename as an .html file, but when I went to save your code, Notepad gave me a strange error saying the following:
This file contains characters in Unicode format which will be lost if you save this file as an ANSI encoded text file. To keep the Unicode information, click Cancel below and then select one of the Unicode options from the Encoding drop down list. Continue?
I had never seen this particular error before, but I believe what it is basically saying is that the text making up your source code has some non-standard characters that are encoded into Unicode format and they are not recognized as plain text characters, so I had to choose a different character encoding format in order to save the file.
I looked at your code and noticed some little block symbols in place of what should have been other characters, so I replaced those accordingly and the file then appeared to be in "normal" text format, as Notepad then let me save it in the regular ANSI encoding format that it uses by default.
There were five of these block characters in total. I replaced one block near the top of your source code with the copyright © symbol and another block with a copyright © symbol at the bottom of your page just before your name in both cases. Another such block was in a comment for a script, so I replaced it with a copyright © symbol as well. Another was supposed to be an apostrophe
' in
you'll but it instead had a block so I replaced it with a '. The last block was in the middle of a sentence so it shouldn't have been there at all...I just deleted that block .
I'm not sure if this will fix the error you've been getting when trying to bring up your page or not, but it's quite possible that the non-standard characters were confusing the browser and causing the issue. Firefox was loading the page, however upon closer inspection it was putting little reversed black ? icons in place of where the blocks were.
I have uploaded both the copy of your original source code and my fixed version to my web host, you can view them here. Note that they won't display properly due to not having your images on my web host or other supporting files...we're just interested in the base index.html page's code here (I named them differently here however):
www.top-work-at-home.info/test/ruby-original.htmlwww.top-work-at-home.info/test/ruby-fixed.htmlJust right-click or go to the View menu and choose View Source to get the source code out of the fixed version and replace your page's source code with it and re-save it. Make sure that you make a backup of your page first however as a precaution.
Something even weirder happens at this point however....when I viewed what should have been your original page at the above link on my web host, it comes up all jibberish, it kind of looks like Chinese or Japanese writing or something.
I have no idea why...I think something got lost in the "translation" (pun intended) when copying it from your host, saving it to my computer and then uploading it to my host again and displaying it from there. That proves to me that those non-standard characters were almost certainly up to something no good...
As to how they got into your source code to begin with, it's hard to say...I've seen such characters appear when files were transferred via FTP using Binary mode when ASCII mode should have been used or vice-versa, or an editor might have somehow stuck those in there.
Basically, just go to the ruby-fixed.html page above and get your source code from that, and try replacing your current index.html page's source code with it and see if it solves your page display problem, making sure to first back up your page of course before trying this.
...Okay, after trying to view your "fixed" page on my domain several times, I did get the error again once or twice but it kept loading fine after that....those odd square symbols shouldn't have been in your code anyway, but they don't seem to be the cause of the error message that sometimes appears when loading your page, so there's obviously still something else wrong causing that problem.
I went through your page quickly looking for scripts and I noticed that you have a LOT of different scripts in there....I'd suggest going througn and removing all of the scripts that you don't need, or even removing ALL script code and then reinserting fresh code for the scripts that you do need in case one of the current scripts is corrupted somehow.
If none of the above solves your problem, then one other thought I had earlier is that your site seemed to go to an error for me while trying to load a pop-up page. This may have just been a coincidence, but you could try getting rid of any pop-up code and see if that helps.
I noticed that you had a few instances of pop-up and pop-under code for an Aweber newsletter sign-up form...perhaps there is a problem with one of them, or you may have other pop-up code on your site causing the issue. This would still boil down to script code however as mentioned in my previous suggestion. I noticed what looked like at least two different types of stat counter codes in there too, if not more.
It may in fact even be a problem with your Google code...that is Javascript code as well. I've seen Google code issues do some strange things sometimes. You could maybe try removing that first since it's probably easier to copy from the AdSense site and paste back into your page than some of your other scripts would be to reinsert. AdSense code tends to be one of the last things to load up on one's page as well.
Whatever it is, one thing I've noticed is that if you're going to get the error about not being able to load your page, it will happen the first time or two you try to bring up your page...if you keep reloading it after that then it seems to work better. It's a strange problem, that's for sure.
Anyway, I hope one of these suggestions does the trick....let us know how you make out.
