I can't seem to get a grasp of the sequence of things here, I read more and more and still seem to be trying to figure out the most basic stuff. I downloaded NVU but don't really like it that much so I'm back with Vdeck but that is confusing to me as well!
I asked in the phase 1 question section about getting signed up with Google ad sense and using the Topslite basic page so I could get an account but if the site isn't published how does that happen? I really haven't made any changes at this point such as privacy statements and that stuff. Do I need to make changes before I try and get any mileage out of it ? I'really feel dumb at this point, I keep reading and tripping over myself!
Thanks,Mark mylearnworkearnathome.com

Hi Mark,
You should have a "live" site, even if it is just your basic TOPS site.
You don't have to use NVU, you can use whatever program you are more comfortable with to modify your site. While you are working on your site though, you should still have one that is active.
Believe me, the feeling of being overwhelmed is common. It does get better, trust me. I can't help you with editing your site in Vdeck. I use NVU. Perhaps if you can be a little more specific with the troubles you are having with Vdeck, someone can help you.
We will get you there Mark!

Hi Mark, As I mentioned here, all you need to do to apply for Google AdSense is transfer the TOPS "Lite" site to your domain using the TOPS FTP Transfer Client, which is an online tool found inside your TOPS members area. It can be found via a link on the Phase 1 home page called TOPS Web Page Setup. After this online tool transfers your TOPS site to your own domain name, it is in effect already published at this point. Publishing simply means placing your web page files on your web hosting account so that it accessible online via your domain name. Often you'll see people talking about uploading their web page to their hosting account...this is essentially what publishing is. Both terms refer to the same thing. The only difference with the TOPS FTP Transfer Client is that it automatically copies your basic TOPS site from the toponlineprofits.com domain directly to your own domain for you. As Lori mentioned, you can use whatever HTML editor you wish. I would not personally recommend using the online vDeck editor and would instead use a more fully-featured editor installed on your own computer, but it is entirely up to you. There are countless HTML editors out there, some free and some not. I've used Frontpage a great deal in the past and like it, but it is becoming somewhat dated due to the HTML standards constantly evolving. Microsoft has since released a newer replacement for it called Expression Web which I like, as it creates more up-to-date HTML code and has many useful features, but it may be difficult to find a free trial version of it anywhere and it's far from free either for the full version. Dreamweaver is a highly recommended editor used by many web design professionals, but it is also quite expensive. Most people starting out are on a limited budget however and want to use free or low-cost tools, at least at first. Many of the members here use NVU, which is mentioned in the Phase 1 instructions. It is entirely free to download and use, which is why many people use it, but it does have its quirks. NVU can be found here: www.nvu.comThere is essentially a newer version of NVU called KompoZer that is supposed to fix some of the bugs in NVU but is otherwise very similar, so it may be worth looking at. It can be found here: www.kompozer.netIf you can't afford to buy a good editor and don't like NVU or its successor KompoZer, then I suggest you do a search on Google or some other search engine for free HTML WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) editor software. Here is a page with some alternatives listed: www.thefreecountry.com/webmaster/htmleditors.shtmlI'm sure doing a web search will turn up many other HTML editors, both free and not free ones. Hope this helps. Troy

Troy and Lori, Thanks to you both for your response, I still can't seem to figure some basic stuff out. 1. I have transfered my my tops site to Ipower and can see it in the file manager but when I go to my url on the internet, www.mylearnworkearnathome.com I don't come up with anything?? 2.I have downloaded NVU but doing the Skyrocket tutorial Jim wasn't much of an NVU fan so I went to vdeck to give it try but haven't made much progress with that either, I'm a bit exasperated! I know I can do this but there's so much info between what my sponsor sent and the phase 1 instructions and all the different t I know we are all going towards the same goal and it's work but I feel like I'm now spinning my wheels. #. If I have the budget should I have SFI build me a website as well or is that just redundant? Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark,
I don't know why your site is not showing. Are you sure your site is named index.html and it is sitting in your public_html in iPower?
I know things seem very overwhelming right now. I can assure you, things will get better. You need to decide how you are going to modify your site. NVU, Vdeck or whatever. Once you pick one, we have people here who can help. I myself use NVU.
As far as having SFI build you a site, I would hold off on that. There is no need for it and you have enough to think about at the moment.
We are all here to ensure your success, you can do it!!

If I have the budget should I have SFI build me a website as well or is that just redundant? Thanks, Mark Try this.. 1. Open your I-power or host account 2. Open the public HTML file 3. Locate your file that contains working file where you save to on computer 4. Locate the upload single file or click the "Upload multiple files to this directory", then click browse this opens an upload file box 5. Locate your web file in your computer files "or whatever" 6. Click the file and click open button on your computer 7. You should see something like C//index.html in the I-power box. 8. Click the upload button. 9. Repeat for each file (use the Upload multiple files to this directory) this allow up to 10 files to be uploaded at once. 10. To verify file click the magnifying glass to the right of each uploaded file. That should get it hope this helps Michael

Thanks guys! Your support is great but I'm still all screwed up! I have 2 files sitting in the public_html file at IPOWER one is listed as index_html and that is in fact the Tops lite site and the other is listed as index_save.html and that is the version with the survey site on it and some additional info or i guess you would call it the standard Tops site. I did have Ipower backup the file when I transferred it but why would it choose to back up one and not the other? As I mentioned earlier I don't view the site when I enter the domain name on the internet, I get " site may not exist "when I Google or yahoo. Also I was just rejected by google adsence earlier today, if both versions of the site are in the folder that might explain the rejection, but I don't really know what to think about that, but if I can't see the site when I Google it how did they? Michael, I tried to follow your instructions but I am losing something in the translation, not that you're leaving something out it's just not as clear as you might think or you know it so well it's still leaving me in the dust! www.mylearnworkearnfromhome.comThanks, Mark

Hi Mark,
If your web site's home page was not visible online with a web browser earlier when Google checked it and just an error page was displayed, then this would most likely be the reason that they rejected your application. Your home page should be named index.html with a period rather than an underscore...index_html is a different file and would not be recognized as your home page.
I see that your web page is properly displaying now however, and it appears to be the "lite" TOPS site at a glance, so I would say you should now try re-applying for Google AdSense if you have not done so already and you should have better luck with getting approved this time.

Remember Success Comes In Cans It takes time, but once you get the 1st Phase under your belt, it only gets easier. After you complete the three phases you can build web sites, and have the knowledge to market and begin working on making a profit. I am currently working on what will be around 40-50 page website with my-townmall site. Keep at it and success will come. Michael
