Hi there, When I downloaded th Tops website the first time I know it was set to a certain number of pixels, 775, I think.. I must have changed that because now my website won`t fit in with the most usual screen formats. I:E: it is too broad. it has 883 pixels according to a "webmaster" friend of mine here in Norway. Now, I`d like to apply for Phase 2 and 3 and I understand that my website should preferably be in accordance with the Top/3PP standard. AND you really do not want visitors leaving your just page because it is way too wide for them to view.So are there any people out there that can help me with this problem???Is it possible to make the change ONCE so I can continue working on the website without having this problem in the future? The website is far from "finished", (I guess it never will) so I will have to work on it for a long time to come. More that I have probably this problem so there must be some solutions around? I will be very grateful if someone could help me! Best regards, Per Hogseth Norway www.powerful-home-business.com

Hi Per,
View your source code and you'll see a couple instances of width that are 555. Change that to 470.
Also change the width of your left and right side columns from 155 down to 150.
The easy way to find the code to change is to click edit , then find and type in width: 555px; .
To find the 155 do the same and type in width="155" and change to 150.

Hi Ken,
I did the changes you told me to and I`m happy to report that my website now fits in with screens which has 800x600 pixels, but not with 640x480.
But it was a major step forward. Is this enough to pass the 2. phase if the other "things" are OK?
Thanks a lot.
Best regards,
Per

Hi Per,
Glad you were able to fix the size, it looks a lot better. I checked some of your links, though and you need to make sure they open in a new window. Otherwise when a customer clicks on one ad, and wants to go back to your site, then can't. You will lose a customer.
It is a simple fix...make sure all of your links have this
href="THIS WILL BE YOUR LINK CODE" target="_blank">
This code will insure that you open in a new window.
Good luck Nancy

Hi Per,
800 px width is narrow enough. Most people use 1024 and up these days.

Hi Per, As long as your site looks good in an 800x600 window, then it is fine as far as the width goes. You don't need to make it fit inside a 640x480 screen size, as very few people (if anyone) uses this size anymore. 800x600 is the smallest commonly used screen resolution, which is why the Phase 1 instructions advise making sure your site's width is optimized for a width of 800 pixels, give or take a few. If your site is much wider than this, people who use 800x600 will need to scroll sideways to view your page and may miss ads displayed in the right column. Ken, Thanks for posting the solution above and the interesting tip you posted elsewhere today about how to include part of a blog on a page via a RSS reader script. Have a long overdue "e" on me Troy Edit: Ken, looks like we were posting at the same time regarding the 800 width recommendation. I agree, in fact I use 1024x768 myself most of the time, although I've used 1152x864 on occasion. I don't think I could stand anything less than 1024x768, I hate scrolling sideways as much as most people do ;D I'd probably go higher if I had a bigger monitor...

Hi Per, I tried several links on your site at random and the ones I checked all opened into new windows for me, which is good. If you have fixed the technical web site issues discussed in this thread and don't have any other such issues, the next step for you would be to post a review request for your site in the Phase 1 Website Review and Evaluation board, which can be found here: Phase 1 Website Review and Evaluationerichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=websiteBefore doing so however, make sure that you have fulfilled ALL of the Phase 1 requirements and have also read the Phase 1 Website Review Posting Guidelines checklist, which can be found in a *sticky* post at the top of the above board. The direct link to it is here: Phase 1 Website Review Posting Guidelineserichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=website&action=display&thread=1184774344Good luck with your site! Troy
