Hi there! I've decided to move my question here! After creating my website using Nvu I've uploaded it to my vDeck, but somehow when I try to click on my links an error message shows, neither my images are showing. I do have on my public_html, files html and htm. Let me explain: on my public_html I have files: (which are pages) index.htm top five work at home.html online surveys.html privacy policy.htm terms of use.htm All those pages should be working by just clicking on their links. How does vDeck recognizes the pages that should be linking and the ones that not? html htm what's the difference? You would have to excuse my lack of knowledge. Maita

Hi Mike,
Make sure you have your images uploaded to the images directory in your public_html directory. That's the way you have them linked in your code.
Make sure you have your files named exactly like the links in your code. Example: TopFiveWorkAtHome.html
Make sure the file has the capitols and the html extension.
There is no difference between .htm and .html. Just be sure if call your file .htm that you use .htm in your link code.

You know Ken you might be right, some of my files are not exactly written as they were before. In my webpage the link appears: Top Five work-At Home.html In my Website administration vDeck my file appears as: Top five work at home.html So I'm trying to rename it on my vDeck but this is what it shows: "Bad character in file name. Please try again using only letters and numbers." Apparently vDeck doesn' allow me to rename it. ?? Maita

Hi Maita, Yes, you can rename files via vDeck's File Manager. However, whether it permits you to do so depends on what you are changing the file name to...some characters are not permitted in file names. You should avoid spaces altogether and just use alphanumeric characters (letters and numbers). It is also easiest to just use lowercase letters for everything to avoid confusion. You can use some uppercase letters if you wish, but you have to match the file names and your links to them exactly or they won't work. This is because file and folder (or directory) names are usually case-sensitive on web hosts. I've deleted the files on my vDeck and went back to my Nvu to rename some files and made sure all the links were spelled the same. After that uploaded them back into my vDeck, but I still have the same problem, my links don't work,so at this point I don't know what to do, is hard to tell what might be the problem...?? I don't want to start over again after putting so much work into my website. Can somebody advise me ? Maita

Maita, Have you yet gone through Jim's TOPS Help FIles tutorial web site? www.theworkathomeindex.com/topsIt explains how to organize and link your files, including your images. At present, it appears that the folder on your hard drive containing your images is not a subfolder of the folder containing your index.html web page file, like it should be if you wish for NVU to link your images properly while building your page offline and then have them work online as well. The reason I am assuming this is from the way your header image is linked. The source code shows your web page linked to your header image as follows: ../images/logo1.jpg The .. tells the browser to go up one level to the next folder (or directory) higher than the present one, then locate the images folder, then find the logo1.jpg image file inside it. On your web host, the public_html directory is the home directory for your web site files and thus is already the highest level directory possible as far as your web site is concerned, so it cannot go up another directory higher. This tells me that your web site files are laid out differently on your own computer than they are on your web host. You need to mirror the file and folder structure on your computer to what you will have on your web host so that your links match up and work properly both offline and online. For more information on this concept, see the following post and the other links it contains erichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=p1&action=display&thread=1170361753&page=1#1170400886To fix your header and other images, you will need to correct the code so that it links to them like this with the ../ removed: images/logo1.jpg You will then need to upload the missing image files to your iPower web hosting account. They need to be uploaded inside your images directory, which is located under your public_html directory in vDeck's File Manager. Please take a look at the links mentioned above so that you can better understand how to organize your web site files and how to properly link your web page to images and other pages on your site.
