Hi Stace,
I'm not on my regular PC at the moment that has all of my tools and saved info and am on my way out of town so I can't troubleshoot and test things in much detail at the moment, however I tried your bookmark link and it worked fine for me in Internet Explorer 7. I don't have Firefox on this computer to test it in that though. Have you since corrected the bookmark issue?
The code you pasted above is only part of the bookmark code...the entire bookmark code from your page's <head> section is as follows:
<script language="JavaScript" type="Text/JavaScript">
<!--
var urlAddress = this.location;
var pageName = document.title;
function addToFavorites()
{
if ((navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer") && (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4))
{
window.external.AddFavorite(urlAddress,pageName);
}
else if (navigator.appName == "Netscape")
{
window.sidebar.addPanel(pageName,urlAddress,""); }
else
{
alert("Please press CTRL-D(Netscape) or CTRL-T(Opera) to Bookmark this site!");
}
}
// -->
</script>
At a glance, the code appears to be okay to me, although I don't quite have every character in it committed to memory
I would have preferred to test it in Firefox as well but can't from this PC, however since it worked in IE I'm sure it's fine, unless a line specific to Firefox bookmark handling has an error in it.
There are actually two parts to the bookmark code to make it functional. In addition to the above section of code, there is also a <form> button on your web page that calls the addToFavorites() function that is defined above, which places a bookmark button on your web page wherever the <form> code is placed.
Just for your reference, here is the other part of your bookmark code from the <body> section that places the bookmark button on your page:
<div align="center">
<form>
<input type="button" value="Click Here to Bookmark this site!" onClick="addToFavorites()">
</form>
</div>
Note that the <div align="center"> and </div> tags just center the form button on your page.
As for the click script, this is non-essential and is just something that was included on the basic TOPS site, but if you wish to retain it then you will need to store the clock.js file on your own web hosting account, as the script calls this outside file to help display the clock. Right now that file is missing from your web host. You will need to go to the following link, save the clock.js file to your own computer with your other web site files, then upload it into your public_html directory in your web hosting account:
www.toponlineprofits.com/tops/js/clock.jsIf placing this file on your web host doesn't solve your problem, then you may have other problems in the source code for the link bar where the clock is displayed. The easiest way to fix something like that since it is on your original TOPS page is to save a backup copy of your current page, go to your basic TOPS page at
www.toponlineprofits.com/tops-xxxx/index.html (replace the xxxx with your TOPS ID), search your source code for clock.js and copy the clock code section, and replace the code for this section in your own web page. For example, here is the clock code section out of my basic TOPS site (yours should be the same):
<!-- ### clock ### //-->
<td id='Clock' width="49%"height="20" align="right"> </td>
<td width="1%"height="20" align="left">
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
DayNam = new Array(
"Sunday","Monday","Tuesday","Wednesday","Thursday","Friday","Saturday");
MnthNam = new Array(
"January","February","March","April","May","June","July","August","September","October","November","December");
//--></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.toponlineprofits.com/tops/js/clock.js'></script> </td>
<!-- ### end clock ### //-->
Note that the src='http://www.toponlineprofits.com/tops/js/clock.js' part should be replaced with the following on your own page to use the copy of the clock.js file that is to be stored on your own web host:
src='http://www.thehomeentrepeneurssolution.com/clock.js'
You already have the above line in your current code, however when I tried putting that link
www.thehomeentrepeneurssolution.com/clock.js into a browser it gave me a "not found" error...that's how I knew the file was missing from your web host. Normally if the file is present, it will open the file (if it is a web page or image) or ask if you want to open or save the file if the browser is not sure how to handle it.
I'm out of town for the next couple of days visiting relatives but I'll have my laptop with me, so I'll try to check in later on if possible. Hope this helps.
