Hello,
So I'm ready to be reviewed to move on to phase 3 except one little problem. Seems I have an image that will not show up on my page. I have contacted ipower and all I got back was that the path was incorrect. Well thats cool that I know the problem is and everything but they didn't give me any thing on how to correct the problem. I have tried to contact them several times now about how to do that and have got nothing back. So if any one can help me out here it would be great.
Thank you much, Brett

Hi Brett, I just checked your page and I assume that the image you are referring to is your Top Pick image near the top of your page in the middle, as it is not showing up for me either. This is because your source code is linking to a location on your own hard drive, which won't work online for anyone else but you since no one else would have access to the files on your computer. The src attribute for the image tag contains the following link: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/website%20graphics/toppick2008_350x232.jpg In order for this image to appear online, you first need to make sure that the toppick2008_350x232.jpg image file is uploaded to your web host, then you need to change the link to the image contained in your web page so that it points to the right location. If you upload the image to your public_html directory (the same directory that contains your home page index.htm or index.html file), you should then change the above-mentioned image src attribute to simply: toppick2008_350x232.jpg Alternatively, you can create a directory (otherwise known as a folder) inside public_html to store all of your image files in to keep things more organized. You could call such a folder "images", for example. If you did this and uploaded the toppick2008_350x232.jpg image inside this images folder, you would then need to change the above-mentioned image src attribute to: images/toppick2008_350x232.jpg That of course assumes a folder name called images. I also noticed that the banners on your site are linked to the sites for the companies providing them. While you can do this, it is better to save the banners onto your own web host and link to them there instead of linking to them on outside sites, as they will display quicker from your own web host than they will if you link to many outside sites. The reason that it is recommended to save the banners and other images to your web host is because if you pull a banner from an outside web site, the visitor's browser has to do a DNS lookup of that web site's domain name and make a connection to that outside site before it can download the banner or image. A general rule of thumb is to add about two seconds to the download time of your site for each outside web site that it has to connect to. The download time time would probably be about the same (but could vary), but at least if you have most or all of your images saved to your own web host, you save that two seconds or so connection time to each outside host, and those can really add up if you have a lot of connections to sites outside of your own. There are some image optimization tips and links included in the following post: erichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=adsmark&action=display&thread=1173751316&page=1#1174820138Brett, I just realized that I made a post a few weeks ago for a problem similar to yours where I included several links and other helpful info. I highly recommend that you check it out here: erichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=web&action=display&thread=1199502219&page=1#1199809790Hope this helps. Troy

Hey,
So it seems I'm still having problems with getting my images to show up on my site. I have tried and tried to upload the images to my web host (and am confident that I have done that correctly) and still can't get them to show up. Also when I take out the "file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/website%20graphics/" the images won't even show up in kompozer. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm wondering if it is the way I'm saving the image files and have tried that several different ways and nothing seems to work. I have tried saving as different file types ( the two options I get are "image files" or bitmap" and no luck with either.
I have to missing something some where so I would appreciate any help or advice on this.
Thank you for your time and efforts on this
Brett

Hi Brett, I was going to suggest that you mirror the file and folder structure of your web site on your own computer and was going to provide you with links to past threads describing how to do this, however upon looking at my last post in this thread I see that I have already done this. Please review the post at the last link that I provided in my prior posting above in this thread, along with the posts at the various links that it includes, for more information on how to do this. It can again be found here: erichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=web&action=display&thread=1199502219&page=1#1199809790Basically, if you have your files and folders laid out the same way both online (web host) and offline (your computer) then the relative link format for images that I mentioned previously (such as src="toppick2008_350x232.jpg" or src="images/toppick2008_350x232.jpg") should work for displaying your site, regardless of whether you are viewing it online from your web host or from the copy on your own computer. To do this, your web site files should all be grouped together in the same area on your computer. It is when you have images or other files scattered in other areas of your hard drive such as My Pictures and link to them there that you begin having problems with images like you are experiencing. In a nutshell, you should make a folder for your web site files on your desktop, under My Documents, or some other location, and consider that to be your web site's "root" folder on your own computer, similar to the public_html folder on your web hosting account. You should then keep all of your web site's files including images within that one folder structure on your computer in the same manner that you would online under public_html. By doing this and keeping the relative folder structure and layout of your online and offline files identical, you will be better able to avoid linking issues between your site's web pages, images, and other files. Ok so as I was giong through my site getting ready for a review and I noticed that my terms of use and privacy policy links were not working. My problem is that I can not find the files any where. Not sure what happened but they seem to be gone completely. I have looked every where. Any info on what to do?
