Hey guys,
Hard to believe I'm this far in and haven't asked this, but what are the little exclamation marks in the yellow boxes in NVU? I've erased some, and am not sure what I'm erasing! Thanks, Tammy

Hi Tammy, I knew I had just posted this recently somewhere but wasn't sure where....a forum search turned up this post, which I'll quote below: erichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=np1&action=display&thread=1167292637&page=3#1169420171I'm not really a NVU user, but I have it installed for reference. I just took a quick look and I believe the yellow squares with the ! marks in them are simply comments in your source code. They start with <!-- and end with --> They don't actually do anything on your page, they are simply there as comments for anyone looking at your source code to make it more readable and make things easier to find. They show up in the normal editing view but not when your site is actually displayed in a web browser. Jim's template (and the TOPS web page which is based on it) has a lot of comments inside the code to help you better understand what is going on with the code, and to make sections easier for you to find. Hope this helps. Troy

Tammy,
My yellow ! show up to tell me where my google ads are. Some are also in personal comments from the original template comments. When I add my own personal comments, they don't show up with the yellow !. Rather they show up as a red ?. But that's another story. Check to see if they are warning you not to erase your google ads.

Shawna Shawna, Since you are referencing above the possibility of erasing google ads, I wanted to ask if you have any idea why my google would not be showing on my webpage? The source code is there, but when I was having trouble with my images not showing, that's when they disappeared and haven't yet resurfaced. How do I get the source to register on my web page again for my 2 google ads? There was one at the bottom of my left column and one at the bottom of my right column.

Cathleen,
I just checked and your Google AdSense ads are not appearing for me either. I'm not sure why your Google ads aren't showing up, it is possible something might have gotten inadvertently changed. Even a single misplaced character in the code could render it inoperable.
In any case, usually the best way to fix this is to delete all of your old Google code out of your web page's source code, go to your Google AdSense account and get fresh code, copy it, and then paste it back into your web page.
Make sure you paste it in the source code view or else go to the Insert menu in NVU and choose HTML... to place it in your page since the code Google gives you is html source code. If you were to place your AdSense code in your page using the Normal editing view, your editor would mangle the code and render it inoperable.
Note that if your AdSense ads still don't show up after placing fresh Google code on your page, it is not unusual for your own ads to not display for you but they will display for other people, so just post in the forum and ask somebody to check for the presence of your Google ads and mention where they should be located.
Your AdSense ads also generally will not show up in your html editor. Google usually prevents you from displaying your own ads so as to avoid giving their advertisers false impressions which needlessly cost them more money or skew their stats. Hope this helps.

Hi Kathleen,
I just noticed that Troy answered your question already. And I will add one more thing from my experience. Google codes are strange things. Sometimes they disappear. Sometimes the dimensions aren't exactly as they should be. And of course, they don't appear so we can actually see them until our page goes live. These combined can make them difficult to work with.
My suggestion to you is that you find the code you would like to use, then copy and paste it onto your editor program under "google ad". That way, whenever it's messed up, you can erase the existing code and go to your editor with the code to replace it.
I'm not sure if the WYSIWYG editors somehow mess with google code, but I have definitely had problems with them.
Good luck -
Shawna
