I have downloaded Nvu on my Mac but I'm having a lot of trouble gettng it to open. Anyone know anything about this? Shawna has very kindly tried to help me, but I'm still not getting it.
I also have Jim's template in a file. How do I move it to Nvu. Do I first have to move it to iPower? And how do I do that.? As you can see I am very new at this and really need help.

Joan- You may want to post this in the NVU forum thread, you'll probably get better answers there. I used NVU on a pc, not a mac, so I'm not sure I can help you. When I open NVU, an untitled document comes up and you click file, then open web location. That's where you cut and paste the template. Then save it onto your computer. You don't need to move it to I-power until you get it going and are close to applying to phase II. There's a lot of NVU specific info in the NVU forum thread.

Julie Many thanks Julie. I will try that. I have gone to the Nvu forum and have registered, just waiting for confirmation. I am also having trouble getting Nvu to open. I have downloaded it several times and the top bar comes up, but not the page, at least not every time. I really don't know why. Anyway, I will keep trying. Joan

Hi Joan, I have moved this thread to the NVU Hints & Tips board. This is the board I believe that Julie was referring to, rather than the NVU forum, which is a completely separate forum from this one. You may certainly try the NVU forum if you wish for NVU-related questions, although I've heard from other members here that it may not be as friendly of an environment as this forum is. On this forum, please post any NVU-related questions in this board ( NVU Hints & Tips) rather than the Website Creation Tool Kit board, which is a FAQ-only board and is not intended for the posting of questions. Jim has a post right near the top of that board with the subject requesting members to please not post there, as that board is simply intended to be used for reference purposes for the web site creation articles he has posted there. While this NVU Hints & Tips board is great for NVU itself, any general web site editing or HTML questions or problems you may have that aren't NVU-specific can be posted to the Designing & Developing Website board. Basically, all boards are open for the posting of questions except the Forum Rules board and the two FAQ boards. I hope this clears up any confusion regarding the above-mentioned boards. Regarding your question, I'm afraid the fact that you're using a Mac severely limits the ability of most of us to help. Macs are great computers, but they are not very commonplace compared to PCs. Thus, very few people here including myself have any knowledge or experience in using a Mac, so we're unable to give you directions regarding it. Of course, anyone who does know their way around a Mac, please feel free to speak up and answer any Mac-related questions that arise Joan, I would say that Shawna is your best source of help here with Macs and NVU, as she is the only other member that I know of that uses a Mac who visits here on a daily basis, although there may be a few others. I would take another look at whatever directions she gave you and try to go from there. If you need clarification on any points then I'm sure she would be happy to help. I don't use NVU as my primary HTML editor so I'm not as familiar with it myself as many other members here are. However, I've seen Shawna say that NVU functions very similarly on her Mac as it did on her PC that she used to use before she got her Mac, so anyone who knows NVU in general can probably help you with most NVU-related questions once you get it up and running. Troy, Thanks for trying to help Joan. I know if we can just get her past this hurdle, we can all help her. Truly, nvu functions the same on a mac. The inherent differences in a mac take a little knowledge to navigate. But once understood, 'documents' on a mac = 'my documents' on a pc, for example. And I personally don't use internet explorer on my mac. But once you know the mac basics, you can follow directions pretty easily. Joan's problem seems to be a little different as she can't open nvu off and on. The nvu forum would be a good resource there. Bearing in mind that they are a rougher crowd there. Joan and I have been visiting back and forth, even by telephone about this. But we're having some issues simply getting things going. I think your instructions, Troy, may help more, if Joan can just translate some of the functions into mac lingo. Thanks for jumping in, Troy. It's been a long time since I did the early template and transfer work and that was under the direction of Erich before TOPS. It's a little hard for me to explain since my experience was so different. You have such a good grasp on the basics and explain them so well. Joan, hang in there. This will soon pass and you will be on your way. Shawna
