Per,
As you suspected and Lori has already indicated, you will need to be patient when posting questions on the forum, especially technical ones that fewer members may be able to answer.
Please note that postings are replied to on a voluntary basis and there are a lot of boards here to cover. While many questions are answered within a few hours of posting, you may not always get a response right away and it may take a day or two.
Also note that many members including myself work full-time jobs and have family obligations as well, so our time here is often limited. We do have members worldwide who are online at various times, however the majority are in North America, where it may be the middle of the work day for many members while you may be working on your site in the evening there.
The primary focus of the support provided via this forum is for questions regarding the TOPS/3PP program itself, its Phase 1/2/3 requirements, and so forth through the boards related to those topics. Most people here are able to answer many such questions.
The more technical boards such as this
NVU Hints & Tips board and the
Designing & Developing Website board (which would have been a better choice for this thread since it's not really NVU-specific) are provided more for convenience so that we can try to help each other with HTML and other technical issues whenever possible. Some issues will need to be directed to iPower or other support channels however, depending on the nature of those issues.
I noticed that you also emailed me in between the above two posts...I was at work at the time and unable to respond until this point, and was not even able to take enough of a break to come on the forum and post from work as it was busy there today. Some days I manage to check in to the forum several times, while other days I barely make it on here at all. Today was one of the latter days. It is between 2 and 3am my time as I post this.
Unless there is a private matter involved that should not be discussed openly, please refrain from emailing or PMing (sending private messages) to individual forum members directly for support issues. The forum is an online community comprised of many dedicated members, and only works as intended if questions are posted publicly on the forum so that all members have the potential to see and respond to your inquiries.
For example, someone else may be available sooner that can answer your question, but if it is sent to me directly and not posted on the forum where others can see it, then they will not be able to respond or provide additional points of view. In any case, I will respond to your email and above posts here together since they were similar.
You mentioned in your email that you had an expected wait time of approximately 10 minutes when calling iPower to get help with this issue and seemed to indicate that you found this to be a rather lengthy time to wait, at least that's how I interpreted your statement. I realize you're calling from Norway and the call is not free, however this is not at all an unreasonable amount of time to hold for support.
In fact, I have personally had to hold in excess of an hour and a half before being able to talk to someone when getting support with different companies, or sometimes was on hold for a while only to get transferred and then have to start holding all over again. I've had this happen many times as well with other companies.
We all want to speak to someone right away, but having dealt with support from many different companies in the past through my day job and on my own, I find 10 minutes to be quite reasonable compared to the hold times for many other companies. Please note that it can take a day or so for an inquiry submitted via email to receive a response, which is why we recommend calling or using the Live Chat feature for more urgent support matters.
If you find that you need to call iPower or other overseas companies quite often for your home business, you may wish to check to see if you are able to get a cheaper long-distance telephone plan or something along those lines if one is available in your area.
The other option with iPower is to go to their web site and use the Live Chat feature at the top of their page to have an online chat with an iPower support representative. It can be found along with their other contact info for support at the following link:
www.ipowerweb.com/contactus/index.htmlIn any case, regarding the particular issue you are having, from the information you posted above I believe that your problem is the file name for your web page. You have used Index.html but it should in fact be index.html.
At first glance, those may appear to be the same, however the current file name has an uppercase letter I while the required file name for you home page is all lowercase letters. Web servers tend to be case-sensitive so they treat Index.html and index.html as two different web pages. You can read more about this topic in the following FAQ posting:
erichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=tool&action=display&thread=1143747000&page=1#1145778477Simply put, if you rename your Index.html file to index.html, it should then display properly as your home page. The reason for this is because web servers are generally configured to look for a default page called index if no page name is specified in the link.
In other words, if you type in
www.your-domain.com and don't put anything else, then the web server will automatically look for an index page and display it if present. Otherwise, a directory listing of files or an error may result.
Because the web server sees Index.html as a different file from index.html, it is not recognized as the default page, which has to be index with all lowercase letters, so this is why you were seeing the directory listing posted above. To reiterate this important point, if the web server cannot find the default page (index.html all lowercase) when no page name is specified in the link, then either a directory listing or an error is displayed.
You would have to include /Index.html at the end of your link, thereby specifying the page name as well in your URL, if you want to display the Index.html page in your web browser, like this:
www.your-domain.com/Index.html This goes for any page other than index with all lowercase letters. Including /index.html (all lowercase) is optional since the web server is configured to look for this particular page name automatically anyway as the home page.
You can refresh the Mozilla Firefox browser in the same way as with most other browsers, by hitting the F5 key, by going to the View menu and choosing Refresh or Reload, or by right-clicking on your page and choosing Refresh or Reload.
I mentioned a FAQ posting earlier...note that we have two FAQ boards on the forum, and I highly recommend for all members that are going through the 3PP program to review these two FAQ boards in case the information that they seek is already there:
FAQ- Frequently Asked Questionserichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=faqWebsite Creation Tool Kiterichw33.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=toolYou should find these two boards helpful as you go through the 3PP instructions. The case-sensitive nature of web page file names is mentioned in the FAQs.
I also recommend that you follow the steps outlined in the following FAQ to put your web page link in your forum profile so that it is automatically available with each of your posts, enabling us to easily look at your page whenever you need help:
