Hi Everyone,
I should have posted this a few days ago really, but it's been a busy several days for me...
My father passed away suddenly on Thurs. July 31/08, so I am currently on leave from work and am staying with my mother for another week or so. He was only 58.
I got the call while I was at work on Thursday evening. My mother said she went back to work from her lunch break at 2pm while he was finishing his lunch at the table and everything seemed fine, then she came home a few hours later and found him dead on the floor in their bedroom. It appeared that he had just finished his lunch and went to lay down for a bit but never quite made it to the bed.
An autopsy was done and revealed that a major blood vessel in the abdominal area had ruptured...the coroner said he would have felt light-headed and just dropped. It was sudden and very quick, and there would have been virtually no warning.
He had several health issues and had been off work on long-term disability for the past several years, but had been doing quite well for the past three or four months and things seemed to be on the upswing. That made his sudden death even more of a shock. The good thing is he didn't suffer. We were expecting him to eventually end up in a hospital or nursing home and linger for months or years if his health kept deteriorating, but at least he was spared that ordeal.
We had to make all of the funeral arrangements on Friday and had a private family visitation on Saturday, the public visitations were held on Sunday, and the funeral itself was yesterday on Monday, Aug. 4/08. So, we've managed to get through the last five difficult days and now it's time to carry on and move forward.
I just wanted to ask everyone to keep my mother, my sister, my grandmothers, and the rest of the family in your thoughts and prayers so that they can make it through this difficult time. Thanks, take care.
Troy
