It was probably just a temporary glitch. In fact, when Michael attempted to view SFI's site, the problem may not have even been on SFI's end.
When one visits a web site, they have to connect from their computer through their ISP (Internet Service Provider), and then through several backbone links and routers (network connection devices linking multiple networks together) to reach the destination server. The Internet is made up of countless such links and connecting points joining everything together. If there is a problem at any point along the way between you and the web site you are trying to visit then the site may appear to be down, at least from the perspective of the person trying to view it.
Sometimes when a web site appears to be down, it is one of those connection points between you and the site you are visiting that is down, rather than the site itself. In such a case, it will likely still be working for some people but appear down to others, depending on the route they have to take from their ISP through the Internet in order to reach that site.
Most of the time, such outages are temporary, isolated incidents that only affect a limited number of people, unless there is a real problem with the server or its hosting service's network that will affect everyone until the problem is resolved.
