Greetings all,
I have just signed up with a lifetime membership and I'm in the process of signing up with the affiliates as instructed. My question is with the "My Power Mall" registration, it asks for the business mall name. I'm not really sure what to put in there, do they want something specific or can I make up anything and change it later when I get more of a feel for this.
Also they say I must purchase 1 product per month. Is that to keep my affiliate status? Are most of you staying with this program?
Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich and welcome to Tops! For your MPM business mall name you can use anything you want. I’m pretty sure I changed my mall name…so you should be able to do so. I just recently learned about the monthly purchase requirement to keep your MPM mall. I was a little surprised but at least it’s not a minimum purchase of something like $20 or more. I believe it could be a purchase of anything and any amount. If I’m wrong…someone please correct me. Have a great day! Lori

Hi Rich
First off welcome aboard and we are happy to see you following the program by coming here for help and support. MPM must have just recently put this requirement into effect which is upsetting to me. I feel like we've been blindsided which is not the first time this has happened to us.... We put them into the Tops program because they offered a free affiliate program. We will be taking a good look at this and will decide if they will remain in the program or terminated. We are always in the process of searching for new free affiliate programs to add to Tops or replace one that hasn't worked out as we expected...
Take Care
Erich

I hate to say it, but they send so many emails that I just delete. I probably deleted it. Mike C

This requirement is now in the agreement but I can't believe it was there when we all signed up. Someone would have noticed it.
I delete all the the "Shopping Alert" messages and just "archive" the rest as I will never run out of storage room in Gmail.
There are currently 111 unopened messages in the MPM file (or label or whatever) and I don't have the patience to wade through them, nor to watch all the videos on the MPM site just in case it might get mentioned.
I have tried twice to shop through the Mall by using the "Product Search" but that does NOT work as advertised, and when I pointed it out to them, they basically said, "Yeah, we know it says this but it really does that" and "that" is useless.
There is no way that I can find to search for 50 cent items or dollar items to cheaply comply with the letter of the new rule. If anyone has found a way, please post here.
It might make sense for someone in a rural area to shop for basic household and personal care needs from someplace like Target.com because the physical store might be a 2-hour drive away. But it's close enough to me that I could walk, so why would I order that stuff online?
I have no objections to ordering online, but if the stuff I want isn't in the Mall, then I get it elsewhere.
I will put out feelers in other forums and see if anyone can shed light on this.
Sandi

Thanks to all who responded,.much appreciated.
I think I'll bypass this program for now until more info comes along. I will do some searching around the forums to see I can find anything of interest. Rich

According to someone in another forum, MPM is training people to hit up Local Merchants to participate in the program. Purchasing from these participating Local Merchants using the MPM debit card would qualify as your monthly purchase.
The way I see this is that most of the people who signed up for free wanted to make money, not spend it. That obviously won't work as a business model. But shopping through MPM is not easy, and many SAHMs have no extra cash to spend just to be spending it. They are not going to use the boutique type shops online, and they are not going to buy household and personal care items such as the TP's (tooth paste and that other TP ;D )online.
SO, if the Local Merchants that come on board are places where people spend money for the basics of life anyway, such as Target/WalMart/KMart, grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, maybe even fast food, then people will probably suck up the debit card fee and use the service.
If the only local merchants that are enticed to come on board are places these SAHMs don't shop anyway, then it probably won't work.
The jury is still out, IMHO, but there is at least hope.
In the meantime, I am removing all my MPM text and banner ads that flaunt the word FREE 'cuz it ain't free no more.

Hmmmm. I think I will remove my links at this point. That's frustrating. I'm doing the same thing you are with the MANY messages in gmail, Sandi. I always have the intention of going back to be 'trained'. I won't bother at this point.

Excerpt from MPM update from Ginny dated 12/17/07:
"My original thought was that all current members would be required to make 1 purchase a month in order to keep their Mall. Close scrutiny of our contract, however, revealed I can't do that. There is nothing in the current contract about 1 purchase a month. So...
Every member who came in before 6:00 PM (PST) on December 17th, 2007 will not have to make a monthly Mandatory Purchase. Every new member after that time, WILL.
I can only hope that if you are not shopping in your Mall that you will realize the importance of taking responsibility for your business and SHOP! It saddens me that I can't require it of current members because I know many people would take action to keep their Mall - meaning that the effort so many of you took to build your business would generate much more income for you."
So, if you signed up before December 17, 2007, you are not required to purchase anything to keep your mall, as I understand it.
