I have tested it both ways two times and both times the same side has won. Discussions about should we do follow up's with our affiliates for SFI or let SFI take care of our affiliates for us.
Both times, the same thing has happened. as soon as I stop the follow ups, it comes to a dead halt. I stopped doing follow up's one week ago today to see if the affiliates do more or less when I stop following up.
It's a safe bet to say that I am going to start up the follow up's again today and include every affiliate that I "let go of" during the last week.

Jeff,
Very good post. Thank you for sharing.
It is vital to your business, that your downline knows there is a live person to help them along the way. Sticking their name in an autoresponder and forgetting about them is not the best approach. Putting them in an autoresponder and personally following up proves to be a much better approach.
Thanks again Jeff.

Jeff,
I basically performed the same experiment after Gery's response in SFI Newsletter and I can tell you that your personal touch is certainly the key! I have gone back to contacting - not being too pushy but letting them know I am there for them to ask questions, offer suggestions, etc. and encourage them to upgrade in a nice, kind, loving, way! - LOL.
Take care and thanks for sharing - by the way - I like your new professional photo!

So, even though Gary says we don't need to, it works better to put them in an autoresponder? I've wondered about this, as I don't usually get any EA's either way.
I've been wondering if I should just email them once personally and leave them alone. Not?

Deb,
My suggestion (for what it's worth) is to load them into an autoresponder with some encouraging messages and information. Not one that bombards them with the same info as SFI is sending them. Also - I send a "welcome new team member" email personally when I get a notice. Then I send a personal after about a week "just checking on you".
The main point I believe with what Gery is saying is that SFI does the here's the powerline you have, here's the reason to upgrade, etc.. We need to be doing the have any questions, I am here for you stuff.

I do a mixture of the two. I have found that most SFI affiliates expect to earn money by doing nothing so that is what they do - I find spending time contacting them and working with them a waste of valuable time - so I only concentrate on the 10% that are active and willing to follow instructions.
How do I do that?
Simple I automate it .......
In my SFI Welcome message I tell them who I am and the success I have had with SFI. I ask that if they are interested in following my steps to send me an email. If they don't then no big deal.
Later in the PATH training SFI asks the affiliates to contact their sponsor and introduce themself to me.
When I get an email from them either in response to my welcome message or the SFI PATH instruction I reply to them with a email that I have pre written that again lets them know about my success and if they want to follow my success path then go to TOPS or my free SFI training page.
To go getters will sign up to TOPS or my training and then I concentrate on helping those vs everyone who joins my SFI team.
I hope that helps Chris

Chris,
Thanks for sharing! That is a wonderful system and I believe it will help many of us if we take the time to set up something similar.
You are right that we can bring them to the water, but we can't make them drink it. We have to concentrate on the ones that actually take the first sip!

Getting input from all of you has really been helping me improve how I handle my affiliates. It is nice knowing that none of us automate everything because we all still need human touch.
After this weekend I will be able to focus all my energy on pumping affiliates into our system.
I will be leaving Friday around noon and coming back home about Sunday afternoon. I will be attending a Deaf Empower Evangicalism Conference on the east side of Ft. Worth, Tx. As far as I know there will be over 200 deaf people attending this conference. I have been looking forward to this for the last two weeks.
I will be leaving my website in the Lord's hands while I'm gone.
